direct debit issue - any idea's

good evening
i wanted to get some idea's as to what can be done regarding an issue i have recently been made aware of..
it transpires that i have been paying for a direct debit to vodafone, long after the contract was signed over from myself to my wife.
she upgraded her phone a few years back and they couldn't just swap the number, so they created a new account for her which she regularly pays direct debits from. however it seems that my account has also seen regular transactions from it ( 2 years as per the bank) and was wondering what could be done, if anything.
vodafone cannot see the direct debit - however i can on my online statements, also we asked on their online chat forum if the account was still receiving payments, to which they said yes, however on the phone lines they advised that the account was closed.
any ideas?
Thanks in advance

It is highly unlikely that more than one direct debit is being taken in respect of the same account.
If you are sure there is onlty one account and the direct debits are being taken from your wife's a ccount, then simply cancel your direct debit with your bank and then they won't be able to take any more money.
Warning. If in fact there is a second account in your name and you just stop the direct debits then you risk a default. However, if Vodafone say the other account is closed, you have nothing to worry about.0 -
Trouble is we and they don't know or can't find another live account. They can't even trace where this direct debit is going to.....!!we have put a dispute into the bank, see what they come back with0

You need a written statement from Vodafone that the mobile account for which the DD is being taken is already closed, before you cancel the DD at your end. You cannot believe anything their CS agents tell you verbally, and they are capable of normally impossible blunders - so don't risk a default being put on your credit file.Evolution, not revolution0
