Do banks give you coins? (Sorry if it's in wrong place)

I need coins for the bus can banks give me coins from my account? Or if I give them a note can I exchange that for coins?

Yes and yes, provided the amount you are asking for is reasonable.

A bus fare shouldn't be a problem - unless you are travelling Land's End to John O'Groats. :)

A bank where you are a customer will give you change.

That may be your experience, but I have been into a bank branch where the staff said they couldn't.

What, even just £10? Any clues as to which one so we can avoid it please?

Sometimes you may need to go to the business or large cash counter, as the ordinary tellers just have automatic note dispensers and very limited cash drawer stocks to prevent theft.

In England, paper money isn't actually legal tender, so you can insist on pound coins (in reasonable amounts) as your bank balance is a debt owed to you by the bank (unless you have an overdraft of course!)
