Ccj put on my file without knowing

Hello

I recently checked my credit file online to find out I had a ccj put on back in 2016 and I am not sure where it has come from.

There is limited information to go off and just states the fine was £200. There is no company information or anything to try and dispute it. I have not had any court summons and I pay all of my direct debits.

Does anyone have any advice on this?

Thank you in advance.

There should be a court reference, you will need to contact them.

Have you moved over the past few years ?

You may be able to get a set aside once you have found the details.https://www.nationaldebtline.org/EW/factsheets/Pages/howtosetasideacountycourtjudgment/settingasideaccj.aspx

You can check the official register of ccjs here https://www.trustonline.org.uk/

That should give you all the details.

Use of the word FINE implies a criminal conviction not a civil judgement for debt.

Some kind of motoring fine presumably.

    Hi Kezpol,

Magistrate court fines are not recorded on credit files, so I think the use of the word fine is just a misunderstanding.

On your credit file you should see the name of the court, the case reference, the date of the judgement and the balance. Call the court, quote the reference number and ask them who the claimant was - hopefully that will shine more light on the situation. Unfortunately, sometimes this is just a debt collector so you then have to call the debt collector to find out what it is in reference too and then you can decide whether to dispute it or pay it.

Claim forms are only sent to the last known UK address, so if you moved and didn't inform this claimant that could be why you missed the paperwork. If you do decide to pay it then it will remain on your file for 6 years from the date of judgement. The only way to remove a CCJ is to pay it in full within 1 month of the judgement date or by disputing it with a set aside but that can be a complicated and expensive process.
