Mortgage retention help

Hi, I'm buying a house and the mortgage company have put a 3k mortgage retention on exchange pending a damp and timber survey. We've had the survey done and there's approx £1500 worth of work that needs doing. The survey said there's very minor rising damp on 1 wall but nothing to rave home about. The problem is that the person I'm buying the house off are in a hurry to sell and are close to losing a new build they reserved if we don't hurry up. I'm willing to get the work done myself after we move in as I love the house and really want to move in.

Regarding the 3k retention is it just as simple as lending the 3k off my dad and then proceeding to exchange contracts?
