Can I use a plug too big for the screw?

    If you have a hacksaw, you could cut one of the bigger screws short and use that. It won't be very strong, but I did similar when I put up a blind six years ago and it's still there now. From a purely aesthetic point of view, this meant the screws on the bracket all looked identical.

    I do have a hacksaw, I didn't know I could cut screws with that! I have lots to learn in DIY stuff apparently :|

    Watch your fingers - ideally hold the screw in some sort of vice, but you can just about get away with using a pair of pliers and a firm grip with your other hand.

    A cut-down screw won't have a pointy bit on the end, of course, but you should still be able to get it started in a wall plug without too much trouble.

    You could take the end of a screw with cutting pliers

    plier set should be part of the DIY toolkit.

    wilko do a side cutter for £1 (won't be top quality but handy to have around)
