Old £5 note - what to do with it

After doing some tidying up, I found an old £5 note. I understand the deadline to use them has passed.

Can I still:

Use it on self checkout machines in shops?
Deposit it in the bank (including self service/deposit machines)?
Deposit it in the Post Office?

No, yes (unsure of machines), yes.
    ...
Generally, the Post Office will continue to accept the notes as a deposit into any main UK bank account even after the notes cease to be legal tender.

Banks will accept the notes if they are brought into a branch by their own customers - at least for the next few months. A spokesman for RBS said: "After the note goes out of circulation, customers will still be able to bring in their old £5 notes for exchange at one of our branches. Non-customers will be directed to their own bank." A Lloyds Banking Group spokesman said: "We'll continue to accept them from our customers, either exchanging them for the new polymer note, or depositing it into their account, whichever they prefer."

The public can take or post any old notes, at any time in the future, to the Bank of England in Threadneedle Street in the City of London, to be replaced.

You can always send your old £5 to the Bank of England. Notes are accepted forever by them. Details will be on thier website on how to return it.

Note you must have a bank account for them to pay the value of the note into. They will not send cash back to you.

I am not 100% sure but I think your local Post Office may accept them from you.

It was asserted by one of your fellow board guides that this wasn't the case (except if making a purchase) but he didn't follow up with any further information when I asked for clarification: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/72563352#Comment_72563352

A bank where you hold an account will take it from you but you will probably have to take it to a till rather than one of those self payment machines.

From what I've read any old Elizabeth Fry £5 notes need to be paid in at the counter rather than an automated deposit machine.

Banks where you hold an account should accept the £5 notes for a while longer, some bank are still accepting the old £10 notes as swop for new ones, well swop by paying in and withdrawing back out again, so there is a paper trail...

but you shouldnt find it a problem, the banks will then removed them from circulation and eventually they will become almost non existent, inlss you then find a relative has stashed some behind the mirror in the bathroom, (True story, i took in 2k in old £10 notes that were moldy as they were found in the bathroom and had got wet with condensation, it was when customers were clearing out a relatives home, what made them look behind the mirror I will never know)
