It's probably no different to the DFS/furniture world/Land of Leather etc sales.
Advertise a toothbrush for £270 for a while then at some time in the future, have a sale and advertise that toothbrush at 70% off the previous selling price and loads of people will think that they are getting a bargain and snap them up.
If Boots thought that they could really get £270, I doubt very much if they would sell them for £80 each.

"From the sonic toothbrush brand recommended by dental professionals worldwide, comes the most stylish toothbrush yet. Philips DiamondClean toothbrush is finished in sleek matte white ceramic with a rose gold finish, with hidden led controls. The simple, elegant design is highlighted from within by lights that glow and fade when not in use, for a sleek, minimalist look."

Aaah it's pure poetry ...( sorry OP) :D

They can only make a deduction if it's more than 6 months since the item was purchased. Before this time they must give a full refund (except for cars).
As Black Friday was the 24th November, the OP is within the 6 month period.

You cannot rule out it being over 6 months old, as a "black friday" purchase no longer implies that the item was bought ON BLACK FRIDAY! Shops have these sorts of sales running up days and even weeks before the actual black friday!

Waybackmachine suggests that their website listed the black friday sale sometime between the 14th and 19th Nov.

(which funnily enough IS listed on the Boots website with a retail price of £270, its just out of stock)
Even if it was in stock on their website it does not says the stores will have it in as that is stock they have in their warehouse

But they could have ordered it into store for next day delivery. Unlike some retailers, Boots can easily transfer stock between store and online operations.

It's a shame OP hasn't bothered to come back for further assistance. Oh well!

No further assistance required, the retailer gets to choose the remedy at this point. That's it, done, dusted, nothing any one on here can say will change that.

Did you miss the point that the OP could have gone direct to the manufacturer and got a replacement toothbrush?

That would have left them in a far better position than your suggestion.

This is typical manufacturer bluster and BS.

It says the "brand" recommended, but nothing about this piece of oral architecture. It could be absolutely rubbish, no more effective than an old twig, and this claim would still be true. It could even be a stylish twig.

That's of course if the claim is true. I spent 5 minutes on Philips' site trying to see if there was any medical evidence to backup their claims. Found nothing useful.

    My conclusion: rip off.
