Getting compensation for criminal injury

My option are
I'm obviously interested in getting as much as possible since the injuries have put me in a lot of financial stress.
Does anyone have experience with this and could advise me on which is the best course of action?
I can provide more details if they are relevant.

- Do it myself through the CICA website
- Go to a local solicitor (pay fee)
- Call criminal injury line (they take a cut)
