adverse credit check for job

Hello
I got offered a job today pending a pre employment screening which includes an adverse credit check by Experian.
I'm a little bit concerned because my credit score is between very poor and poor on Noddle. I had a default on a mobile phone bill in 2012, it was paid off and satisfied almost straight away but it's still a mark on my credit history. I also have about £20k of debt (loan, credit card, etc).
Searching on Google hasn't really set my mind at ease as there's conflicting info on what the employer might be able to see. It's not for a bank, so most sites say they only see public info for CCJs, etc and nothing about defaults.
I'm worried the default WILL show up and combined with the loan I have, I'll look irresponsible in some way. Will they pick up on these things or solely look at the CCJ stuff?

Your credit score is a totally meaningless number plucked out of thin air. Don't worry about that.
Check what shows up on your credit report with Experian (you can do it free with MSE Credit Club). You might find it's different from Noddle (definitely is in my case). At least then you can be prepared for any questions they might have.0 -
Even if they can see the default it's not necessarily going to result in the offer being rescinded.
They're often more concerned about people who might be tempted to steal to pay off their debts or be coerced into doing it by a third party to help clear them than they are about your account conduct.
It'll matter even less if it is satisfied.0 -
I had a bankruptcy and numerous defaults and passed a credit check for a job! :rotfl:0
