Hi Does anyone know if this is likely to contain asbestos or just felt cover?.

Unfortunately it isn't possible to say it doesn't contain asbestos just by looking at a picture. You could only find out for sure by getting an expert to remove a sample for testing.

It looks like felt pipe insulation, but without being able to see what is underneath it is impossible to say that it isn't felt pipe insulation wrapped around asbestos fibres. Sorry, I know that doesn't help much, but you need to have an accurate answer rather than a guess.

The key point is why are you concerned? Are you planning on removing or altering the pipework?

It is difficult to tell for sure, but is the pipe actually doing anything? It appears to me the tanks are no longer in use?

If they are in use then one of the things to consider as a possible additional expense is getting the water tanks properly supported - the wooden structure doesn't look anything like substantial enough to support the weight of the tank with water in it.

Almost certainly not asbestos.... My best guess, anyway.

Best to start a new thread, theres a button for that at the top left of the page.

No one can tell if its asbestos for sure by looking at it, they can only speculate.

Get a pro in to take a sample and get it tested. Don't cut corners with asbestos, get professional opinions from a trusted source. Don't work on it yourself, if your getting any work done on your house, again get pro advice.

Tradesmen should follow a strict guideline on how to work with and around asbestos. If you get one whiff they are cowboys about this, show them the door. Asbestos can be a killer.
