As your son tried to cancel the policy and get a refund without informing the insurance company of the incident, he may well find that this gets recorded on the insurance database and if it does, it might affect his chances of getting insurance for a while or it may cause a large increase in premiums.so the day after he hit the wall he rung his insurance company saying he wanted to cancel his insurance as he didn't feel up to it.
One thing that insurers don't like is people getting money from them when they are not entitled to that money.0 -
Exactly this. At best, he's been naive. At worst, he's deliberately and fraudulently trying to exploit the insurer's cooling off period.shaun_from_Africa wrote: »As your son tried to cancel the policy and get a refund without informing the insurance company of the incident, he may well find that this gets recorded on the insurance database and if it does, it might affect his chances of getting insurance for a while or it may cause a large increase in premiums.

"Vague and incomplete story to try and obtain reassurance of innocence - please help!!!"
"Help!!! - Scant details of accident below, more will be drip fed as I'm challenged on the original account."
"Please tell me the nasty people at [insert garage name here] are liable for my cambelt snapping after they fitted new wipers and a tyre."
"Who can I get compensation off of [sic] because I have a diesel that is now worthless but I bought it because I wanted to be green?"
Which all happened on a very wet Wednesday, when they had to go to town to get the cat neutered. . .
Very funny post!

That reminds me of the recent post where someone complained that the police might have caught them speeding, which they considered grossly unfair because it was a hot day on a road back from the seaside which the police knew would be busy.Which all happened on a very wet Wednesday, when they had to go to town to get the cat neutered. . .

Apparently, "thousands" must have been caught. I do remember it being in the news as one of the great miscarriages of justice in modern times.0 -
I seem to have missed that one!Aylesbury_Duck wrote: »That reminds me of the recent post where someone complained that the police might have caught them speeding, which they considered grossly unfair because it was a hot day on a road back from the seaside which the police knew would be busy.

I'm confused. Your OP mentions that the insurers want your son to pay back the money they paid to him?
Your son has been involved in an incident and is at fault. The homeowners insurers will go to your sons insurers for a recovery, your son will have a claim on his policy, which he needs to declare. He will therefore have to pay his policy in full for the year.0 -
This'll likely end up getting reported as fraud, leading to a lifetime of increased premiums, and in extremis some time inside, or at least a record and a fine.
The parent telling the story has been caught out in a couple of lies, too, such as the damage / no damage change.
OP, it's an old saying, but if you set out lying, you need a better memory than you have for details. An honest man has no need to remember what he has said.0 -
Even as a Parent I would doubt the "a cat ran out in front of me" story if one of my siblings crashed.

Interesting if the insurance company or the police read this thread.0

And of course we must never forget "I ploughed into a cyclist by doing a shocking overtake and want everyone to agree I'm awesome and blameless [edit] but he hasn't claimed on the insurance so obviously this is all hypothetical and you're all idiots"0
