I am considering going to Uni next Sept (2008).

I will be 21 in Jan, so i will be 21 if i go to Uni next Sept.

What is the age bracket to be classed as a mature student? ? ?

Many Thanks.

    according to wikipedia:

"A mature student (aka adult student) in tertiary education (at a university or a college) is normally classified as an (undergraduate) student who is at least 21 years old (23 years old in Ireland) at the start of their course and usually having been away from school for at least two years."

    Hey Gaz,

If you're in scotland, SAAS will regard you as a mature student when you reach 25 - so for funding you'll be a 'young' student. Your uni may have a different age, I'm a mature student with my uni, but a young student according to SAAS!

Depends - for university statistics you are 'mature' if you start your course after the age of 21. HOWEVER, for student loans (England and Wales - not sure about Scotland and Ireland), the age cut off is 25 (unless you've been fully independent of your parents for 3 years, or are married/in a civil partnership - then your spouse's income is taken into account).

To be classessed as mature or independant you have to be either 25 years or older before the start date of your course. If your under 25 you have to married/civil partnership or have dependant children or estranged from your parents or you have to prove you have financialy supported your self for 3 years. these rules apply Scottish English Welsh and NI students.
