Useful if people understand what it all means.
My first reaction was "OMG, I'm multi-dimensionally deprived!"
Good job I've lived here for a while......0 -
Even in the city, there will be enclaves which are quiet and those where trouble always seems to occur.
We lived in easy walking distance from the centre of our small city, but missed all of the bother that used to happen along the main route out, just 200m away.
I have lived in several town and city centres like that. I used to live in a mews behind a high street. It was really peaceful and quiet, but the crime rate looked terrible purely because of Fri/Sat night drinkers out on the high street. We never saw or heard any of the trouble. I currently live near a night club and again that pushes up the crime figures, but the clubbers never come near our road.
It is always worth looking up places you know well and seeing the crime rates. It can be really surprising.0 -
I use:

The second is pretty similar to the first.
Type in a postcode. They colour code areas depending on a number of factors including deprivation, schools, crime etc. Green is better going through to yellow then red is worst.
I don't know about your area but having used it on the city that I live in and know very well indeed (Nottingham) plus other places I know, these two sites are pretty much 99% bang on with the reality of the area... We are house buying soon and these are invaluable tools for confirming what we can alreday see with our eyes when we will be viewing plus existing local knowledge.
Just using streetcheck itself is a bit pointless since there is crime pretty much everywhere so the results don't really mean anything. If you take more factors into it then the findings become more meaningful and useful.0
