Car Insurance HELP PLEASE!!!!
Hello all. My good friend has pointed me to this site as he said the community on here are really helpful.
I feel like my car insurance company have completely had me over. Long story short a third party driver reversed into my car only causing minor damage but he quickly realised he could spin it and say I drove into the back of him, he had no tail lights and no indication for his reverse manoeuvre. He is only insured third party fire and theft, he is not seeking to claim against me but isn't admitting liability. So here is what a find absolutely ridiculous.
I drive an average car 07 Astra i'm 30 years old and have been driving for 12 years with no motoring offences and pay around £1100 per year for car insurance with 3yrs no claims bonus. So because the person who reversed into me is not accepting liability, it has to be marked down on my policy with Hastings Direct as a fault of mine, which in turn means I lose my no claims bonus. All of a sudden I receive a text from them saying your policy has been cancelled. I contacted them to ask why and they stated "because you are making a claim it has to be marked as a fault on your policy so you lose your no claims bonus and then we recalculate your premium and if it is over £1000 we automatically cancel your policy". So then I was stuck at work with my vehicle and no car insurance, To start a new policy that day i was looking at over £2000 for the year. £2000, i'm paying even more than I did when I was 18 and a new driver. I had no choice so I had to fork out £198 for the first month of a new policy. In now way shape or form did Hastings try to meet my needs as a customer, it was just their way or the highway.
I asked Hastings if I could withdraw my claim so that my no claims bonus can be reinstated, as the damage to my car is only a bumper graze and the only reason I chose to make a claim was down to principle. My premium had gone up anyway because of this incident. They said I could not now withdraw my claim and there is every possibility I may not get my no claims bonus back. I also have to pay £325 excess to get my bumper polished.
So as a summary, you pay car insurance but when someone crashes into you, your insurance company cancels your policy. Any advice here on how to tackle this would be hugely appreciate.
Thanks in advance to you all.

Quick question: Why would they cancel your policy if the premium exceeds £1000 when you opened your post by saying your premium was already over £1000?0
-
So why didn't you take your business elsewhere? £1100pa seems incredibly high for someone of your age, record and vehicle type. Where do you live?
Also, is your policy fully comp? If so, why bother on a 10 year old Astra? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I've never heard of an insurer recalculating the premium (or withdrawing the NCD) mid-term. A very dark matter.0

OP - I call BS on your entire post. There are so many holes in that story; it's not even a half decent attempt. All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0

Claim liability isn't strictly "at fault"/"not at fault", but more a matter of who ends up paying. This is for fairly obvious reasons...
If your insurer recover all their costs from this other driver, then your excess will be refunded, and your NCB will be unaffected. But you will still have to disclose the incident for five years.
If your insurer carry some of the costs, then you will lose your excess and your NCB will be affected.
Making a claim over a bumper graze as a "point of principle" was only ever going to go one way, as "points of principle" inevitably do. Especially based on such a stretch of credibility as "I didn't go into the back of him - he suddenly reversed into me..." with no witnesses. What would YOUR reaction be if somebody told you that?0 -
As soon as they recalculate your policy and it is over £1000 they automatically cancel your policy.0
-
Why would I create a post and fill it with lies? So people on hear can help me with a bunch of lies? Seriously?0
-
Well I quickly recalculated on third party quote sites. They came in at £1400 and Hastings wasn't an option which means they must have blocked me from third party sites like compare the market. £1400 was with my no claims so it would have been more than the Hastings quote without. Also you say why bother on a 10 year old Astra, well I don't just have the expenditure to just go and purchase a new vehicle.0
