Head Gasket

How much will it cost to replace the head gasket on a peogeut(Sp??) 406. I have been told that is probably what is wrong with my car but I would like an idea of price before I take it to the garage. Thanks

They vary depending on whether other parts have gone with it

Your probably talking around a minmum of £300 reaching upto a £1000 depending on cause etc

She's probably been told by a friend that is what is wrong. The garage will definately isolate the problem before removing the head - you'd think so anyway.

Yep minimum 250 - 300 to a max of (how long is a piece of string?)

Mind you the 250 - 300 is assuming you want if put back together again, if you deside to scrap it or sell it, you could take the car away after removing the head and you'd pay half that amount.

  • Thanx everyone. At least i have some idea. I am always paranoid about being screwed by a garage so forwarned is forearmed so they say.

If it hasn't been done recently ask about having the timing belt changed at the same time, as all the, considerable, labour to change the belt is needed to remove the head. A decent garage may well suggest this to you.
