Getting out of recruitment, please help!

Hi,

So have found myself a few years into a recruitment career I never planned, and have decided now is the time to bite the bullet and make a move. What I’d love to do is move into a less KPI and sales driven career, but still utilise the skills I’ve gained over the years.

I was hoping to pick everyone’s brains and see if they know what a career recruiter could potentially move into? I have bills so the thought of a super low salary I just dont think I can make work but open to suggestions.

Really appreciate your help!

Double glazing salesperson, PPI call centre operative, second hand car sales. I reckon the opportunities are endless.

Team leader / management? I'm guessing it's still KPI-driven but at least someone else is doing the constant cold-calling.

Otherwise I have to agree with the thrust of what Ronaldo said. Your skills would be well suited to another sales job, but if it's not a sales job you won't be using the bulk of your skills / experience and the pay will almost inevitably be lower.

Have you ever handled an opening on behalf of a company, read the job specification and thought "I'd like to be able to do that job"? Have you ever successfully placed someone who was making a career change? I'd've thought a recruitment consultant wouldn't be lacking in potential inspiration.

How about in-house HR at somewhere large, stable, and with good benefits?

Sorry someone's got to ask it. Have you consulted with yourself? :D

Rubbish hours if working for one of the big multi's but good salary if in right area 20k+ plus in some area's of greater London
It's general SLA, no bonus, might not get on with client or they have other idea's... Was with a new person recently who was having a fit at how many calls queue for us when they'd come from an insurance sales type background so you never know someone else shoes I guess.
I've never had any stick or you know that sales pressure in the current role but some of the above defo can apply; sometimes it can be like a teenage call centre but I can distance myself plus the building doesn't feel me with dread on a daily basis. I was watching a collections programme the other day and if I'm honest I think they were slightly better behaved.

Customer service or complaint handling for a company?
Store Manager? (if you don't have to work your way up)

Can't think if I've ever worked with a recruitment consultant, no, don't think I have, maybe a few personnel types who were once.

I guess what I'm learning is not many people take recruiters very seriously, shame as I'm genuinely serious about getting out of this environment.

So what about HR? That can be a well-paid job, needing people-skills and understanding of process, but without the sales pressure.

Sorry I missed this! I'm actually looking into that, seems like a great way for me to move away from the salesy environment I loathe but still use my skills. Thanks!

I worked in Recruitment many, many years as ago I've been working in HR admin for the last couple of years and starting a new job at the end of the month in a compliance, vetting and admin role within an HR department in a large well known company.

I worked in recruitment in the 90s so things a bit different now, however I had a lot of transferable skills which have helped.

I don't know where in the country you are, but in my neck of the woods there are loads of HR admin roles paying a range of salaries.

Being a team leader/manager is more about people management than targets, if you have the right interpersonal skills to lead your team, then often the targets will take care of themselves.

OP. Unless you move sideways into another sales job, you will probably need to take a pay cut in order to change career. You then work your way up, cant expect to get a well paid job in a field you have no experience with.
