not sure if buyer is paying

i sold an expensive phone that i had got on an upgrade and followed the uk only, no paypal rule that seems to be favoured at the minute to ward off scammers, the winning bidder contacted me asking if he can pay using paypal, said no, he then replied saying that this was his only option, i said that i didn't offer paypal in the listing and did he not read it before bidding and winning. he hasn't replied but has completed the check out by saying he will be paying by other methods but not saying what method this will be! as i am left with an £11 selling fee i don't really want to be lumbered with a non-payer.
should i send him a message asking what method he is using and when to expect it?

Yes.
Simple as that really - congratulate him on winning the bid and then ask how and when he intends to pay so that you can organise him getting the phone.Sealed Pot Challenge Member Number #19060 -
For all my ebay sales I follow the same basic rule.
1. Someone wins an auction.
2. I send them an invoice informing them how to pay.
3. If they fail to pay within 7 days they will receive an ebay reminder.
4. If they fail to pay within 14 days they will receive an unpaid item strike. I get my final value fees back.
5. Item is relisted if strike has been processed.
They must pay by how I state in the auction, no exceptions. They usually pay by step 3 as strikes can lead to their account being suspended.
I used to spend time chasing up non payers etc but now I just keep it simple, pay up or I take action. I will not be wasting time waiting on non payers.0 -

I quite agree, take them down this route. There are a lot of non payers who do not read listings correctly.0 -

just sent the following to the "buyer", will wait and see if he responds to this.
hi, just another riminder about the phone purchase, was a little confused as to whether you wished to go through with the sale or not, please let me know asap, as i will have to re-list and contact ebay about your non-payment if you no longer wish to full-fill your winning bid.
thanks0 -
Always assume they ARE going to pay
I don't give them the opportunity to say 'Not'! My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -

I'm with fay on this..never give them a way out of a sale. Always assume payment will be made as per your auction and then if you think they are not going to pay just put an NPB in on day 7 rather than waiting any longer.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
