Leaving my electricity supplier..
Can I change my current electricity supplier even though I still owe them money?
And can tell my current supplier that I can only pay them a certain amount of money each month until it's paid off?
Basically Eon are robbing b******s 🙄 and I've had enough of them!
Please help!

How much do you owe, they can block the switch if you are in serious debt. When you leave any debt becomes immediately due but they may agree a payment plan. E.On do report to the CRAs but I cannot say if they would mark AP on your file.0

Remember: If you agree a payment plan, it potentially becomes an Arrangement to Pay on your credit files if your supplier reports to CRAs
If they do, that will hammer your credit history and be a very bad thing so it may be worth checking if your supplier is listed on your credit reports (Free Ones: ClearScore, Noddle and the MSE Credit Club).
They may just block the switch anyway. When you say E.On are bad, are you on a fixed deal or their dreaded SVR?

Please seek advice from your local citizens advice bureau about this. Don't listen to random strangers on the internet as this may have serious consequences for you going forward.0 -
Is the debt disputed or are you simply in arrears? You can AGREE a repayment schedule with them, but you can't dictate the terms. If it is too little, they can pursue the full amount. Remember, it will have to cover not just a contribution to the arrears, but also your ongoing usage.
If they do allow you to switch, then they will expect full payment of the debt on receipt of the final bill. What you can do is switch to their cheapest tariff if you are on SVR. Remember that switching may require you to pass a credit check.
PS: just because you owe someone money, that doesn't automatically make them 'robbing b******s'.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Morning Gorsey and welcome to the forum,
As others have said it will depend how much of an outstanding balance you have and how long this has been on the account.
We would normally object to a supply leaving with a balance over £200, and, or if this was more than 28 days old.
We would also bill you up to the meter reading provided to us by your new supplier, so the final bill may also make this balance higher.
In some cases (depending on the amount) we may be able to set up a payment arrangement to clear the balance over a few months. But this is something that would need to be agreed by a credit operations department here.
It may be worth speaking to us, get some meter reads on the account so we can see what the up to date balance is and go from there.
Thank you
