Hi
So I have just received my P60 but it looks like it did not take into account my previous employer from Jan 2016 - end of September 2016.
According to them, they sent me my P60 original copy but i cannot find this anywhere nor do i remember receiving it. This is affecting my proof for paying my student loan. I believe I have paid this in full now however my P60 does not look like its taken into account my previous job. I thought an employer had to keep a copy of a p60 for at least three years. When I phoned HMRC i didn't get the answer but they are sending me a payment history to prove i had a salary kinda thing.
Has anyone else had this problem and how did you resolve it? I know what I paid every month for student loan and unfortunately I cannot find any of my previous payslips.
Is there any other way I can prove?
Thanks

Do you have your copy of the P45 from your previous employer? Does your current employer have their copy of it? (They could charge you for a photocopy.)0 -
Hi ill try and have a look again but i couldnt find anything. i think i gave my p45 to my new employer and shall ask if i can get a copy.0

Was there a gap between employments? Employers have until the 31st of may to issue p60s to their employees , There should be no problem in them reprinting them in todays electronic submissions, we had to do them in the pastVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0

I don't know what the current situation is, but I do remember receiving P60's which stated that copies could not be provided.0

HMRC can't provide a copy of your P60 as they never get sent one by your employer in the first place.
Your op also seems to be about two different tax years!

Your previous employer could have only sent you a P60 for the 2015:16 tax year, they would not provide you one for 2016:17.
The employer you were with at the end of this tax year, 5 April 2017 would be the one who provided your P60 for 2016:17.0 -

P45 forms are issued in triplicate: one copy you keep and two are intended for you to give to your new employer.0 -
hi sorry im not sure i understand this. if i was with an employer from 2016 to middle of 2016 surely the tax deductions would be for this year therefore a p60 for 2016-2017? or am i missing something here?0

Each tax year runs from 6 April of one year to 5 April the following year. A P60 is only issued to someone who is employed on 5 April by the issuer. So for your employment I would expect a P60 to be issued to cover earnings from start of employment up to the last earnings that were paid on or before the 5 April 2016. This would be the 2015/2016 tax year. Earnings after that up to the date of leaving would be shown on a P45 and no P60 would be issued for these earnings. The pay and tax figures on this P45, if given to your next employer, would then show on the P60 they issued (tax year 2016/2017) as pay and tax in previous employment.
The details you have described suggests to me that for some reason your new employer did not get the P45.0
