Fund income

Hi everyone. Could someone help me understand how funds pay a monthly income. When I log onto my platform and look under income, all I see is a price (eg 0.38p) but no quantity showing. 0.38p by itself is very little to be paid monthly. I am obviously missing something and I really would like to see what kind of income/dividends the funds that I am invested in, are paying. Many thanks

  • Hi,

you could check funds on Trustnet, there's a dividends tab on the fund page, tells you amount and payment date, though may be a few days before it reaches your account.

Assuming your a looking at the dividend price that could be 0.38p per share, so if you own 1000 shares that would be a dividend of £380 for example.

I know that's the way ordinary shares work, but it's these units in Funds that are confusing me. Do they work the same way?

I think that would be £3.80. if dividend is only 0.38p, it's not 38p per share/unit.

Thanks everyone. Maybe shares are better investments than funds regarding dividend payouts

I think if you told us your platform, fund and the sum involved it would be easier for someone to explain rather than guess

Hargreaves Lansdown is the platform I was looking at. For example Kames Ethical Equity fund. Amount of units say 7690

That Kames fund has a price of 160.28p with annual payouts so I'm not sure how this marries up. Where are you seeing the 'income'? If you look at Income under Transaction History it will show you a value and not a price. Are you confusing this with their monthly Loyalty Bonus (though this fund doesn't pay any)?

Yes, I was looking under Transaction history and seeing a value but no quantity and price. I know about the Loyalty bonus.
