Problem when I switching supplier 2 years ago
I switched supplier from Sainsbury Energy 2 years ago and just had an email from them saying I still had £20 ish still in my account and they would use it for my next bill.
I thought any credit was supposed to be transferred to a new supplier automatically.
Energy companies are not that transparent when switching and I'm usually in credit so wonder if I've missed out with transfer of credit everytime I switch.
I wonder why this credit wasn't transferred?

Any credit left with the old supplier when Switching should be returned directly to you, it does not get rolled over to the new supplier.

But how can I check if when I've switched if there's anything left in my account because the moment the switch takes place access to that account is denied.

The old supplier should send you a 'Final Bill' after the Switch, which will show either a Debit on the account which you must pay, or a Credit which they must pay back to you.
Take the matter up with Sainsbury0 -
I must have switched nearly 10 times and never received a Final Bill.

They used to run a "don't ask, don't tell" policy for credit balances when you switched away. If you questioned them about it, they said they expected you to come back and then they would use that money towards your bill.
Ofgem told them to stop doing this.0
