New PC build

I'm another that has not built a PC in years

If money was less of a problem, i would not go for sata ssd. but rather a bus based one, possibly one on the new incarnations of m2 line - unsure which one without googling.
You want your prog to load and run fast.... loads of ram and create a ram drive0 -
Also you are never going to get close to the speed of 6Gb/s with a mechanical drive, more like 150GB(about 1.5Gb/s) if you are lucky > 2nd Hard Disk = 1TB WD BLACK 3.5" WD1003FZEX, SATA 6 Gb/s
this is what we all want when it hits the market - possibly a ram killer? https://www.geek.com/chips/new-intel-storage-is-1000-times-faster-than-your-ssd-1629656/
16G, may go to 32G? "550W PSU as what I calculated the above needed was 498W". Personally even with 16G, would definitely do a bigger supply. Also blueray/dvd is missing, plus a few fans? Possibly another drive in the future? 550w..... er not for me. Some may say it is an overkill, but would probably go for 700w, or 800w if the price was similar.
Would buy decent thermal paste too0 -

I bought a new QHD monitor to make use of the 1080 Graphics card as the 1080 Ti was overkill for gaming at 1080p level. Funnily enough it was the money I saved dropping down 1 level that paid for the monitor! I upgraded the fans due to the factory overclock and increased the power as that was the base model with best power consumption but downgraded the motherboard as looking at it I was not going to make use of any of the gadgets that the other comes with and this is the best version of the base model that can make use of liquid cooling.
It's currently being tested in their shop before being sent out to make sure the temperatures are stable, after having to replace the CPU as they weren't happy with the heat it was kicking out. When I called to check up on the order that got me worried but should be fine between the liquid cooling and the 4 other case fans (6 in total...)
Should get it Tuesday or Wednesday fingers crossed so thank you all for your help and advice and for pointing me to the other forums to post too.
Have a great week.0 -
The Motherboard, Cpu, Gpu and Ram are exactly what I ordered as well and you will not regret your choice, It's an awesome bit of kit.
I went with the Nocuta air cooling and it seems to keep the temps pretty low (75 degrees) when under heavy load
I recently bought an AOC 4K monitor for £300 and wow !!
You will def not be disappointed, the waiting is always the worst part, like being a kid on Christmas Eve all over again !0
