E111 still needed?

We travel to Cyprus in August, I have an E111, wife cant find hers.

We will be taking out travel insurance, do I need an E111? if so, any idea what it should cost?

TIA

It is free for EU members.

Best your wife applies for one anyway, means public hospitals and doctors are the same cost for you as for the natives of whatever EU country you are going to.

If you just use your travel insurance, I am nearly sure you pay up front for private care and claim afterwards, possibly with an excess.

Google EHIC (no longer called E111) for your country. Simple really.

    E111 is obsolete.
    EHIC is free.
Do not use a website that charges you.
EHIC is not a substitute for travel insurance.

Go here to apply for EHICs:
    https://www.ehic.org.uk

This is the official site, BUT it is currently down, possibly related to the NHS cyber attack, so maybe try tomorrow.

Most travel insurance policies now require you to have an EHIC as this reduces the cost of treatment and the amount they have to pay out.

Check the terms of your travel insurance.

In one policy I have had I remember something about also carrying the E111 card with you (in the countries where it is valid) being a condition of the insurance.

You said you were taking out travel insurance in your first post.
If you aren't, keep your fingers crossed that you don't have a serious health problem and need repatriation.
If you do, your listed medical problems will seem trivial.

And once more - it's not E111 so it doesn't matter that your wife can't find hers.

Get an EHIC for each member of your party. Think of the hassle it might save when you're ill and don't have to make a claim.

Get insurance too. Even if existing conditions aren't covered. Make sure you disclose them though. You never know what's going to happen.

There's plenty of time to get a replacement EHIC before August ?

Your E111 will almost certainly have expired anyway by now, it's been EHIC for many years and at least one of mine has expired in that time.

    Apply here https://www.gov.uk/european-health-insurance-card

Well a quick phone call now will sort it out. I would say don't wait until July/August since chances are everyone will have left it until last minute!(And then panic will ensue)
