Hi,
I'm plan to apply for a mortgage.
I currently have one CCJ on my credit file.
I keep reading that this falls off the register after 6yrs
However I'm being told by credit report agencies that ccj's remain on file if unpaid even after 6 years and that it is permanently removed after 6 years only if settled, is this true? I I realize that this maybe accurate for court records...but is this the same for credit agencies?
The 6yrs will be up this September, it's for £1000(which I am happy to pay? is it worth me paying? Should I just wait out 4months and pay if it doesn't come if my credit file?
Please help

If it isn't paid with the first month it sill stay on your file 6 years, so in your case come September it will be gone whether you pay the £1000 or not.

Just because it drops off your file does not mean a creditor cant enforce it, although they appear to be taking there sweet time, if they dont do anything before sept, they will have to go back to court and gain the courts permission, which depending on the circumstances, may be refused.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Yes I forgot about this.

You seem to acknowledge that you owe this money. If so then yes, of course you should pay. That's what happens when you borrow money.0 -
Well, it's not that I acknowledge I owe the money, I can't really remember what this could've been for. Paying seems the easiet and quickest way0

I'm currently based abroad, so to be frank I'm not too concerned about balliffs etc.
I didn't borrow this money, it's likely an unpaid parking fine or even working tax credit related.
I found out this was on file last week.
When you say enforce, you mean attempts to contact me and retrieve payment right? And if they have made attempts to enforce does this give them more leverage to extend the CCJ? My point is why exactly should I be concerned with the attempt to enforce?(considering I'm not living in the country at the moment)
So if it's possible they will extend the CCJ? will I still have the one month grace period to make the payment, thereby having this removed of my file?
Sorry, I'm a novice in this area0 -
If your living abroad you really don't have anything to worry about.
If at any time in the future you return to the uk and are chased for this debt, remind them of the fact six years are up since judgement was granted, and the necessity to return to court.
It's up to the creditor to determine if it's worth chasing any further.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
