^^ I don't know what they are like to deal with if you have your phone stolen as thankfully that has never happened to me. Most people have old/spare phone lying round, coupled with a 50p PAYG sim from a corner shop, and you can be back on the Starling app in no time.

To be honest it is probably no more difficult than contacting an old dinosaur bank out of hours to report a stolen card.

Also I've never needed to contact customer services in the 2 years I've been a Starling customer, in fact I can't even remember the last time I needed to contact any bank customer services.

You can also have the app on multiple devices at the same time (so on more than one phone and/or iPad/tablet). I think Starling restrict you to 10 devices iirc.

I would have loved to have a Starling current account but they are b****y hopeless if you have a Raisin account, and I have now given up on them. Their system cannot cope with people who have existing Raisin accounts, and they aren't even able to provide any indication as to whether they plan to fix this issue, and if so, when.

I have asked them 3 times now. Every time they promise that someone will get back to me (they have my name, address, email address and phone number) but nobody ever bothers to do so. Goodness knows how they would actually handle a real problem which might affect their current account holders. They are, in my eyes, worse than TSB.

My recommendation to anyone having or considering a Starling account: do have at least one alternative source of funds, don't put all your eggs in the Starling basket. This is good advice with any bank, but with Starling in particular.
  • Any experience (positive or negative)?

Might be worth having a nose around their TrustPilot page... https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/starlingbank.com

Well obviously wise you wouldn't be able to install it on a new/spare phone after your phone was stolen.

You'd be getting it deactivated it on the lost phone, so that is different from being able to have multiple active devices with access.

Interesting. This could work the other way round too?

So it may, perhaps, explain why when Raisin shifted their banking system to Starling some existing Raisin customers, me included, weren't ported to the new system. They gave no explanation, only saying there were technical issues with some customers. But perhaps those customers were those, me included, who already had a Starling account!

Judging by this and the report from Ruth Donaldson above which also implies Starling can't handle two manifestations of the same person on their systems, they are best avoided for now if you might want to be with them via two accounts..

I had been thinking about a business account with them, perhaps I'll not bother!

I’m not completely sure what your post is attempting to say but why wouldn’t you be able to install it on a new/spare phone? I’m sure there a procedure to install without having the old device to hand.

They explained to me that their system can't cope with the same phone number on more than one account. I appreciate it won't be easy to fix what, IMO, is a fundamental design flaw, but at least I would expect them to let people know whether they ever intend to fix it.

The issue with your Raisin account not being moved to Starling absolutely sounds like the "telephone problem".

This is the case. I used my mobile no for mine and my wife's raisin accounts but when we were ported to Starling they had to contact us and get us to change the phone number on one of the accounts. Seems a bit low tech these days for a tech based bank. At least it makes my decision to go with either Starling or monzo easier.

  • Has anyone been invited to open a Euro Account with Starling?
It's the principle reason I signed up for the app, as we will need access to a Euro account later this year.
However, despite their website saying they'll be available "in the next few weeks", they can't say when that will be.
