court letter

Hoping someone can advise here as I've been stressing all day
today i have had a further steps notice from a magistrates court. demanding payment in full for a sizeable amount. to states that i have failed to make payment as requested so i need to cough up or i will end up with a CCJ/Bailiffs etc. now i know the importance of paying these things BUT this is the first correspondance i have had. i am going to assume (as again i have no info at all until i ring on monday) that this was a traffic fine or something that was sent to my old address as there was a period of july august and september that my car was registered to my old address which i didn't have access to, as i moved house! i have had no court summons, no notification of fine. looking online i can submit a statutory declaration under section 14 of the magistrates court act. but I'm bricking it that i will get this CCJ. i can afford JUST to pay the hefty fine but why should i pay that much when this is the first knowledge of it!!!! anyone else had this???

Sadly your post doesn't appear to make much sense in legal terms. Courts don't send "letters".
What exactly have you had? Are there headings saying what they are? Are there document numbers on them? Who has signed them ie the printed title underneath the signature?0 -
it has come from the fines officer based at magistrates court. court would send a summons which i have never received. and the only correspondence i have had now is the further steps letter. as i have failed to pay as directed a fine that has been dished out about a case of which i had no knowledge,0

thanks. I've had a look online at that site and that confirms about the statutory declaration that i have to submit. its really hard to know what to expect without knowing any details but would appear I've been fined, summonsed, convicted and further fined all without my knowledge!!0
