I'm quite shocked that your medical doctor isn't advising you to eat well, drink well, exercise and maybe meditate to help improve your state of mind in a natural way!

But alas, maybe doctors these days feel that this sort of advice falls on deaf ears! At least I know how they feel now :rotfl:

Unless you have some underlying mental health issue you simply have workplace stress which we ALL get in some form or another. And the above suggestions are perfect for helping to manage that.

So what are you doing to help yourself? Sitting at home isn't going to change anything.

You have no right to a promotion, and unless it is contractual, no right to a pay rise either.

Your options are to work on improving your work performance (have you asked for feedback on where you need to improve, is it your soft/ communication skills?), or looking elsewhere.

Is English not your first language, is this part of the issue at work? Your English is excellent but you do come across as rather difficult, which may be down to differences in communication style.

This thread was not about my medical condition. I have a very difficult situation at work, there is significant abuse of authority and I am looking for advice. Unfortunately, some people here are focused more on putting people down and making some unreasonable assumptions than actually focusing on my concerns and question. Anyway, thanks a lot to all for participating.

No, I have taken a sick leave due to a very stressful and hostile work environment which has significant impact on my mental condition. This was advised by the psychiatrist.

So if a stressful and hostile work environment is a cause then lots of other people must also be off work due to it.

If other people are not off work then you should maybe have a think about why it is bothering you so much. Personally i think that people let work issues effect them too much. If the workplace is that bad for you then you should look for another job and resign as soon as you can.

Doctors seem to be far to quick to suggest time off work when people have mental health issues. That's doesn't solve any problem it just delays it for a few weeks / months.

Have you put in a formal grievance internally?

It is theoretically possible to be both business critical and underperform - the only person who knows how to do things need not be doing them well.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Your question has been answered many times already but you refuse to accept it because you have decided what your answer must be.

You're just going to have to deal with it, there is nothing illegal happening, abuse of authority (by your reckoning) is not a criminal act. We are in agreement that you are not being discriminated against due to a protected characteristic. From the sounds of it, they dont like you, maybe justified, maybe not, we dont know.

Your question has been answered yet again.

    Absolutely correct.

Sorry Pumen, I can only reinforce what others have said. You may well have been treated badly or unfairly (whatever those words mean) but you have not been treated unlawfully.

If you stop and think about if for a moment, many aspects of employment are all about discrimination. Who to appoint? Who to promote? Who to award a pay rise? etc etc. However unless that discrimination is on one of the few legally protected grounds (race, religion, gender etc) it is entirely lawful. It could simply be that the person making the decision finds X easier to get along with or shares his passion for stamp collecting!

It really is as simple as that and I'm afraid you are going to have to try and come to terms with it.

    A word of caution.

Even if you were to find a new job, there is no guarantee that your new employer doesn't use similar tactics and you won't have protection from unfair dismissal for the first 2 years of employment.

Getting stressed over non promotion to the extent of having to take time off from work is not good from a personal or professional viewpoint. Most employment these days comes with a degree of stress.

Second word of caution. Taking a large amount of sick leave can lead to legitimate dismissal. That is dismissal without compensation and probably a negative reference.

Earlier this year, my company introduced mutual separation program based on criteria, clearly stating that people with rating of "meets some expectations" will be primarily considered for the separation program.
Have you actually read the full policy? Because most commonly, although rules and criteria are set, they often end with something along the line 'that the policy is at the discretion of the company and they don't have to adhere to all what is set up in say policy'.

I'd be very surprised if they don't have a get out clause, and that's likely using some form of wording that will set that they have to consider all requests under the rules of the policy, but that doesn't mean they have to grant all those who do meet the criteria.
