Chicago Xmas shopping trip

:rudolf: :snow_laug :santa2: Have a DBC (Denied Boarding Compensation) voucher with BMI which needs to be used before end of Dec. Only enough for one person to fly and only decent (interesting) destination from Manchester is Chicago. Was thinking of having Xmas shopping trip late Nov early Dec. Have read about shopping on Chicago's 'Magnificent Mile'. Has anyone ever been, are the shops good and can anyone rcommend a good hotel to stay in/very near to the shopping district that is reasonable say less than $120 per night? Also any other things I could do whilst there. Sears Tower...is it worth going up? If I book I will be staying 4 nights but will probably only have 2 full days shopping. The other two days will be partly taken up by travel.

How lovely. went to Chicago years ago and loved it. I expect the shopping´s changed a lot now tho´.
Sears Tower was great and the views magnificent, but we were there in the summer. It is the only high rise I´ve ever felt queasy in looking down, I think it was the shape

I didn't think the shopping in Chicago was any different to Oxford Street! Great city though, but in December it could be absolutely freezing - your first purchase must is a thick coat, hat and gloves!

Sears is one of those things you do because it's there - I preferred the Hancock Tower, which isn't as tall, but access to the bar is free which is one floor below the observation floor.

Also find the original 'Billy Goat Tavern' which is underneath Michigan Avenue. Beers burgers, hotdogs, but don't ask for fries "WE DON'T DO FRIES" is what you will get in response!!
