How do I blacken a screw?

Hello - I'm putting up a black front door sign that has a black background this weekend and I don't want the mounting screws either side to stand out too much.
Can anyone advise of the best way to darken the screw head? A DIY place once dipped them for me in something to darken them, but I don't know what this was.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Just a blob of black paint ? a marker pen will turn purple .0

What about something like this assuming you're using pozidriv screws?

Otherwise a blob of paint as already said.0 -
Provided that the screws aren't stainless steel, gun bluing liquid should do the job nicely. (it's called bluing but the colour is actually very dark grey or black).
This stuff has the advantage over paint in that it actually colours the steel rather than simply sitting on the surface so it won't flake or chip off.
You can buy bottles or touch up pens of the liquid.

I think you'd be better off with some nice contrasting stainless steel screws, anything black you use won't be a match, so it will just end up looking like a blemish on the sign.0

Black nail varnish might be an option.0
