Cashing in commemorative coins

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes.
i have 2007 Royal Diamond Wedding Commemorative Crown which I was going to put on Ebay but they go for less than the face value of £5.
The internet says that I cannot cash it in at a bank but it would be accepted at the Post Office - which seems a bit odd.
Does anyone have experience of cashing these in?

Have you tried the Post Office? If you just want to cash it in give the PO a try and see what they say.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. AFAIK the PO has agreed to accept them in payment for goods or services, not cash.
From the Royal Mint:Crowns are issued to mark special occasions rather than for use in general circulation. They are legal tender – for £5 or 25p as described above – but contrary to popular belief this does not mean that banks and retailers automatically have to accept them. Indeed you will probably find that most banks and retailers refuse. Please be aware, however, that the Post Office has agreed to exchange them for goods and services.0 -

I'd guess that would be Crown POs but can't see any more info.
I remember accepting some years ago as payment. I used to collect coins and quite liked the crowns I got..0 -
I also have these crowns. I would be interested to know if Post Offices accept them. Please keep this thread updated and I will do the same if I have any luck.0

As this appears to be down to the individual PO wouldn't it be easier to just try your local Post Offices and see what they say? If the OP manages to get their coins changed for stamps or something in their local PO that is unlikely to set a precedence for all other POs to follow .
Personally I'd try both a Crown PO and an individual PO and see what they say, you might be lucky. I'd even give your own bank a try, I worked in a bank several years ago and we had several coin collectors on the staff who were more than happy to allow the cashiers to swap for face value, and then buy them from the till. I bought a whole load of Churchill crowns at one point just for a school event as we got enough to give every child who entered a competition one as a runner up prize.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. There was a very old thread here where people had varying degrees of success with both POs and banks:

I have used one to pay for postage at a Crown PO and it was accepted with no question as a £5 coin.I need to think of something new here...0
