Meaty beef bones

I have approx 2.5 kg of beef bones which I have been given for my dog !! These bones are vacuum packed in date and it seems such a waste to give them to my dog (as much as I love her ) any suggestions what to make with them they have quite a lot of meat on them X

Tricky one .... if they were that good I'd have thought they'd have been sold as bones for stock or something.

I'd be wary about the regulations over food packaging for humans -v- for dogs.... in short, I'd worry that "for dogs" it's all a bit slack and doesn't really matter ... and "for humans" would need to have more/different checks and assurances.

I'd give them to the dog and just sit beside his bowl looking at them mournfully as he gobbled it up .....

My OH bought these from Mo**isons and cooked them in the same way as you would cook pork spare ribs. They were good.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

I don't know if you have a pressure cooker?

If not, I think a slow cooker would just take longer.

Brown the bones (as much as you can) over a high heat then dump them in the pan.

Add around three cups of water/beef stock or half/half ale, three or four chopped celery stalks, a couple of chopped carrots, tomatoes (tinned or fresh), garlic and a chopped onion.

High pressure for around 30 minutes, then let the pressure release naturally (10 ish minutes).

Add stock till it's the volume of stew you want. Add a good squeeze (third of a tube of) tomato paste, soy/ worcestershire sauce/ thyme/ rosemary/ cumin/ salt to taste. Throw in diced potatoes, carrots, and any other veg you've got. On High for another 10 minutes.

Add a big heaped spoon of flour mixed to a paste to thicken the gravy and optional dumplings - allow to simmer with the lid off for 10/15 minutes or until dumplings are cooked/gravy is thickened.

Serve with crusty bread, with or without bones (depending on size and audience) - the meat should just scrape off with a fork (pulled pork style).

Rich, meat falling off the bones, beef stew - in around an hour.

    Hungry now...

Where abouts in Morrison's do you find these? I assume the meat section but are they on display or do you have to ask for them at the butchery counter?
    Thanks

They are just out on display at ours. They used to be very cheap but they have gone up. I buy them sometimes for the dogs as they cannot actually crunch them so it gives the teeth a good clean and the jaws get a workout. I was curious as to how much meat would be left after cooking so I did some in the slow cooker - I could only get 4 bones in as my SC is only 2.5l I think. As it happened 2 was enough for a meal for 1. I did them like ribs with a spicy rub and then cooked on low all day. Very tasty.
