Landowner, PPC or both? Who should I appeal too?

I've updated this thread at i just remembered more information that confuses me further. I have checked previous threads and cannot figure this out, sorry if it's been covered.
I recently drove to a meeting and parked in an unfamiliar car park, there was only one visible sign directing me how to pay (which was attached to the side of shed, below eye-level and on the opposite side of the car park). The only option to pay was via a mobile phone app. Registering my details on the site was time consuming and difficult (the website was quite clunky). It took me about 20 minutes to navigate the site and pay to park but when I returned to my car I had received a PCN. After double checking my transaction, I realised I had entered the incorrect reg plate hence the ticket.
My first thought was to appeal as I did pay to park, and i know the signage was poor. I am also under the impression that the land-owner can cancel the ticket, which I figured may be worth a shot and they might be more accepting of the circumstance. However, after researching the company on BMPA I found they have never taken anyone to court (Parking Solutions24) and now i'm wondering if it's even worth appealing? Is there anything to gain (or lose) from appealing if there is little to no chance of repercussions?
UPDATE: I have only recently acquired the car, and the registration documents only arrived yesterday (11th May) and i received the PCN on the 27th April. Would the NTK be sent to the previous owner? They are a family friend so would hate for them to be unfairly involved. What exactly is the difference between keeper and registered keeper and should I make the PPC aware that I was the keeper at the time?
Thanks in advance.

- to get a POPLA code where you are almost certain to win, so it will be cancelled.
- to avoid the possibility of a NTK being sent to your relative, in case the DVLA haven't updated the rk data yet. I expect they have, but I wouldn't leave that to chance.
- to avoid the long-term possibility of a small firm like this, deciding to do some small claims in a couple of years when you've pretty much forgotten about it. Past performance is not a guarantee that a firm will never try some claims (after all, if you'd got - for example - a ParkingEye PCN in 2012, the advice on all forums and on TV's Watchdog was to ignore it. By 2013 they'd issued 30,000 court claims, changed their stance and morphed into a shamefully litigious monster).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
