DRP Notice

Hi,

I have received a notice in the post from DRP (Debt Recovery Plus) about a Parking Charge Notice I was given over a year ago.

A little background into the situation - I used to work for a company that had limited car parking so it was common practice to park in a lay-by at the bottom of the road. Next to the lay-by was a sign from UKPC. It was about 7 ft up a lamp post in small writing, After working there for about a year, I was advised by a coworker that it was OK to park there and that others had been doing so for years. They explained that they would receive tickets for a few days and then after that they would stop putting tickets on their cars. UKPC would start again placing tickets on the cars after a few weeks and the process would start again meaning they would receive 2 or 3 tickets and then it would stop and about a month later they would issue tickets for another 2 or 3 days. This went on for some people for well over 3 years.

My situation was slightly different, I parked there only 3 times and received 3 tickets. I asked several people who parked there regularly what I should do and they told me to ignore it (I now realise this was stupid thing to do).

Anyway, 12 months on and UKPC have stated taking people from my works to court (the ones who have had to actually pay the fines are over £1200 and they had over 30 tickets). I received a letter from DRP saying that this letter was a final reminder and that they would offer me a 'FINAl Settlement Offer' of £99. I'm not sure if this has group together my 3 tickets or if I will receive 2 more of these letters.

I have been looking through the site for advice but there doesn't seem to be any circumstances that are similar to mine.

Also, the 'Reason for Issue' is 'No Roadway. Parked on a Roadway'. I am confused by what this means, if there is no roadway how was I parked on it. As well as this, the first ticket I received stated that I was parked on Double Yellow Lines even though it is clear that I was parked on the other side of the lines - not sure what the rules are on double yellow lines.

UKPC took down the sign about 4 months ago, just before I left the company however I have been informed that they have now put it back up.

I would like some advice abut what the next step for me is or if I should do anything at all.

Thank you in advance :)

Ignore anything sent to you by DRP. Did you read the NEWBIES FAQ sticky, post #4 about (not) dealing with debt collectors?

UKPC are subject to a HMRC winding up order - I doubt they will be taking anyone to court right now.

Come back if you do receive any court papers from UKPC (there won't be any from DRP - because the can't!).
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.
