Assessment for Maint grants/ loans etc

I am a parent and have just dropped 2 daughters off at uni - we have just found out daughter no1. qualified for FULL loans and maint grant as she has been living independantly for last 3 years and supported herself thru college with a job.
Daughter no 2 lived at home and went to college so she was assessed on our (2 parents) income and got a reduced maint grant but full loans etc.
This is great news - but what will happen next year - do they have to apply all over again? and will they both be classed as independant and probably get full grants - if they only do a part time job and live off loans etc or will daughter no 2 still be classed as dependant anyway and based on her and our income again?
We can afford to give both or one of them some help (due to savings ready for this event) but are wary if regular income from us will effect their grant as we realise they may need more help next year when they move out of residential into private accomodat.
Thanks for any help - have looked everywhere for advice and fed up of holding on the Gov. phone line!

You have to apply each year yes.
Not sure how much you get though. I would also like to know how its based. Bit annoying really, I would have got a grant if mother didn't get another bf *sigh* damn her hehe (love her really)0 -
I think it's based on their status when they start uni, so your 1st daughter will get the full grant and loan every year if she's still living independently, and your 2nd daughter will be judged on your salary.
I don't know why most students don't do 3 gap years then claim financial independence!! It would save them a fortune in loans and they'd gain financial work experience that would help them through uni, and help them get a job at the end!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Hm yeh. I would have done that, but by the time I get out univeristy I would be 25...... rather not lol!
I want to get career up and running ASAP. Doing a 3 year sandwhich course so by the time I am 30 I will be in a safe position to have settled down and started having a family0
