Date of birth: mine
account number: **** division number: ***

there is still an outstanding balance on the above account which was imposed at VARIOUS COURTS on 15.02.2007

Please see attached sheet for the details of how to make a payment of the balance owed

If you do not pay this money owed to the court further action will be taken which may include arresting you or taking your goods.

for more information go to: https//www.gov.uk/government/new/hm-courts-tribunal-service-advice-to-debtors-on-unpaid-historic fines.

your sincerely
Historic debt enforcement team.

Can anyone kindly advise??

I have been cleaning out my credit file and gradually re-building it. currently i have no debts no late payment or etc.

The letter also has HM Courts & Tribunal Service at the top of it (letter head)

I am scared.. pls help.

I did have a debt and i settled it with the debtors, I also got a letter from them to confirm the debt was settled (back in 2014). Nothing has shown on my credit file for any debt and this is the 1st letter I am receiving for this - i have not moved addresses in over 15yrs

Thanks

The historic debt team does seem to exist, this can't be debt or credit card related though, have you had court fines or similar in the past that haven't been paid?

This wont be a debt/CCJ but a Magistrates Court fine.

Not paying the former is a civil matter, the latter is a criminal one. Read the link you've posted yourself, contact the courts involved with the references and see what's going on.

This will be for unpaid fines or criminal damages etc. You really need to think hard as the consequences could be serious. Ignoring is not an option if genuine.

There was a programme on TV a while back about this team and they were arresting people as they were about to board planes to go on holiday with their families - pay up now and go on holiday or come back to the station with us and sit in a cell for a while !
  • My wife has received a letter from the above, it has her address, then it has "Division: 080" followed by an account number and her date of birth. The main body of the letter is headed "FURTHER STEPS NOTICE" . It then goes on to say the amont she owes is £250. As she has failed to make payment as directed she is hereby given notice that one or more of the following steps will be taken:
*Issue a warrant of control to enforcement agents to take control of your goods
*Register the account in the Register of Judgements,Orders & Fines
*Make an Attachment of Earnings Order
*Make an application of benefit deductions
*Make an application to thr High Court &/or County Court to enforce the amount outstanding
We dont know what this is for, it may be from an old store card issue that is some years old. Can we send a statute barred letter or is this a court letter?

Either way, this is a thread hijack on a non credit card-related matter.

Which is goes right against the T&Cs and basic posting info that you clearly confirmed you had read and understood as part of your signup!

Also, do be aware that scammers have been trying to pass themselves-off as the historic collection scheme, in a reasonably convincing manner.

So before doing anything else, you should confirm its veracity with your local court - but be very careful what you say and do not provide any kind of declaration - Just in case it is genuine. ;)

The Historic Debt Team would almost certainly relate to a magistrate court fine. There is no time limit to chase this and it should not be ignored. Contact them, via post or email, and ask them to confirm details of the original fine. If you are unable to pay in full then you can offer instalments, and will need to create a SOA.

A court fine is a priority debt, and is more important that credit cards, loans etc. It isn't something that shows on your credit file.

If you are unable to make a suitable arrangement to pay, I am afraid there is a risk of enforcement. This could potentially result in bailiffs or a deduction of earnings order. If it is bailiffs then you should receive a 7 day notice of enforcement before anyone can attend. They would reserve the right to force entry, but this is very rarely used. Keep the doors locked, do not let them in and hide anything valuable outside your home. Good luck,

The rules shouldn't differ when it comes to statue barred, but unfortunately they do. It is not fair to charge someone unexpectedly, threaten them with legal proceedings and then state it is "historic" from over 6 years ago.
