Silly question, but does anyone know if there is a number for a UK BT helpline? (Is there still a BT call centre in the UK or have they all been outsourced?)

After complaints and not being replied to, and after getting fed up with arriving in India, today I actually spoke to a lovely English girl at BT.

This is what I did, without really realising what I had done ......

I wanted billing, went through all the bits and bobs press this press that, then Do you want pay by direct debit or (I cannot remember what the other option was) no matter, so I did not speak, the computer asked four times, I still did not speak, your call will now be forwarded to an operator, PRESTO, in England, she sorted it all out, and I could understand every word she said, and she apologised for all the problems I have had.

Might be worth a try for anyone trying to get through to someone that can understand and speak good English, just dont's speak when the options are read out!!! regards oap

    UPDATE

I have just had a very polite phonecall from the secretary of the CEO of BT Group, informing me that she has raised a cheque for £20 compensation and that she'll call me again tomorrow to confirm that this has gone through.

I'm very impressed with the speed and efficiency with which this matter has been settled, and can report that I'm now happy! Thanks to everyone that provided tips and encouragement.

Would advise anyone who is a victim of the "BT shunt" as it is known within BT (i.e. being shunted around different departments) to go straight to the top with their complaint. BT are supposed to have addressed this problem and perhaps if enough people complain to the CEO, something will eventually be done about it.
  • I have set up a blog where you can submit your BT Complaints online.

Join me and many others you are sick to death of BT and now want some action.

I have to say without reading all the posts that BT have to be the WORST people to ring, after moving recently into our new build home i had to ring as our broadband had been disconnected, this was due to BT puting in the wrong postcode and virgin being unable to set our BB up..i rung and was on hold for over 30 mins waiting for the man to put in 1 letter to change it over..had to argue a lot for him to do this as said he couldn't??
I then had to ring numerous times as our line stopped working i ended up in tears on the phone through pure frustration from not getting anywhere. I had to call them from my mobile (over £100 in total) and even on speaker phone either got cut off or put through and through and through even though they are the ones who supposedly put you through to the right dept..
I had 3 engineers out and it carried on with the line not working, the worst thing was was that they kept threatning me with a £150 call out fee is it was my equipment that was faulty, i plugged in our brand new phone but without risking it went out and bought another basic one just to be sure, sure enough it was them again..i really wish i could get our landline through someone else as i can't bear to deal with them. Tbh this stresses me writing it out! I have complained via email and letter and nothing..am i suprised?
