Argos faulty item return for refund - but £5 discount due to gift card

I purchased an item from Argos on Thursday which was faulty straight out of the box, sadly it was the only one left in the nearby area after checking otherwise I would just take an exchange so it will have to be a refund and I have ordered the same item off Amazon now.
Anyway will be taking back over the weekend to get it refunded, it cost £179.99 however I paid £5 of this with an Argos £5 gift card I acquired during one of the recent 'Spend £50' promotions. Will they refund me £174.99 and give me a fresh £5 gift card or just refund me £179.99? Presumably the £5 can't just vanish into thin air for a faulty item return!

Did you bring the gift card with you and tendered it as part of this transaction? (i.e. the gift card was received as part of a previous transaction). If yes then you're entitled to £174.99 plus a £5 gift card as a refund. (You must be returned to the position you were in as if this transaction had not happened. The point above regarding an expired gift card is a red herring ... the gift card wasn't expired at the time of the transaction. Technically the refunded gift card only requires to have the same expiry period [not date] as what remained at the time you used it, but it's unlikely Argos would be so precise).
If the £5 off was received (and used) as part of this transaction then you're only entitled to £174.99 back. (The actual monies paid).
The above is my opinion and understanding ... IANAL.0 -
They will refund the money and give you another £5 gift card.
There was a thread on here previously where they refunded a purchase paid by other vouchers with argos gift cards so it is something they can do.0 -
Thanks - took it back today and no problems with getting a £174.99 refund to my card and £5 gift voucher valid until 2020! Previous one only valid for a month so a bonus but I doubt it'll take me until 2020 to spend!0
