Moving credit from account

We have a interest free MBNA credit card and paid for a holiday with it 4 months back and cleared the balance completely a month ago. Unfortunately we should have been on holiday this week, but due to illness have had to cancel it. Easyjet have refunded us £833 of the payment and our travel insurance will refund the rest bar a £100 which is fine by us. Unfortunately Easyjet would only refund the money onto the card we used. So we now have £833 credit on a card we don't use, ok we could leave it there till our next holiday but that wont be for a long time as things stand. From what i see if we transfer this to our bank account MBNA will charge us 4%, which i don't think is fare at all. Anyone know any other options, we're not to keen on leaving it sitting there, but reluctant to pay 4% to get our own money back.

Thanks

The charge you quote would normally only apply to a money transfer, this is a refund so there shouldn't be any charge.

Interesting to see easy jet refunding, would expect all to come from your insurance in most instances.

Call them up, and when the automated system asks you "in a few words, please tell us why you're calling today", simply say "credit balance refund". The operative will then do the business. Call by 4pm tomorrow and you should have the cash in your current account by Monday/Tuesday next week. :)

In this situation I would simply transfer normal day to day spending to this card until the amount was spent.
Alternatively, call MBNA and ask to have the credit balance refunded to you. If this situation came about as you say it did, there should not be any problem. MBNA do not charge for such refunds; the 4% fee you refer to is for money transfers.

Yes i was surprised as well, just explained my partner was taken ill, she was quite poorly, offered them medical confirmation from doctor, they didn't ask me for it, kept me waiting on phone for a few mins and said i would get the £833 refunded, and written letter of cancellation to send to insurance for the remainder. Its not what i was expecting at all. i hear so many complaints re Easy Jet but this result was excellent, and all done so quick. i'll contact MBNA see what they say re transferring money over.
