What sort of fence post, how big.
there are a few options
best choice will depend what you are going to do with the posts and if one or both are being secured in the ground0 -
the old fence post isn't really secure but neighbours want it left in as they have trellis joined onto it so I am gonna put a new post in on my side and secure it to old post.0

old fence post is an 8ft, new one is 8ft but 100mmx100mm so a little thicker.0

Are these timber posts?0

If the existing post isn't secure, the new one will have to be, so you are looking at excavating an appropriate hole first, while temporarily supporting the trellis post.
How easy will that be? What sort of ground support is there already? If it's concrete, you have a problem!
Anyway, it sounds like support the existing, remove whatever's holding it up, dig beyond to make a new hole, fit new post in position, coach screw the two together as above, concrete in.
If you don't have an appropriate drill to handle the holes for the screws, then you could adapt something like this to join the posts:

....or use builders' band, but it won't look very elegant!0 -
Changing a post with trellis attached is not that big a job if doing the new post properly anyway it will be easier with the old post out of the way.
if the timber in the old post above ground is good then the bolts shown above will do 3 will be enough more if extra cautious
look for coach screws.
M10/M12x150mm would probably do the job(for exterior use)
(assuming 100mm+75mm posts)
if you come in from their side you wont have bolt heads your side.0 -
If the existing post is broken/rotten from the base, you need a spur-post which gets set into the ground with concrete and bolted to the sound wood.
