Why does my dog only like to chew wires?

Hello everyone,
I'm looking for any help I can get on how to stop my puppy chewing wires.
I know they normally chew everything in sight anyway, but he seems to enjoy chewing wires especially.
I always make sure an effort to remove any from reach, but if I take him to a friends house its the first thing he goes for.
My friend shared this video of a charger exploding on Facebook. I'm worried sick he's going to start with plug sockets!
Should I be worried? Any advice would be appreciated...
Thanks everyone!

How old is he?
Teach him a strong leave command.
Keep him on a lead in friend's house till he can behave himself.
Find something he likes to play with that you can distract him from the wires with.
Another thought - does he get more of a reaction from you as he heads towards the wires and does he thinks it's a great game? That's what my little sod would do. In which case change how you respond to it to keep him safe while not giving him lots of attention for it.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
My puppy likes chewing (I think they all do). Luckily he hasn't chewed wires as of yet, he tends to chew his toys.
Does your puppy have enough toys to play with? he maybe getting bored and looking for something to play with. I found a natural wooded block (from pet shop - sorry can't remember name) helped him.0 -
Try something like bitter apple spray on things you want him to avoid, as it should taste nasty. (I say should because I once had two dogs who thought dog repellent spray tasted lovely.)0

Yes, I put a lemon in the fruit bowl to stop Gitdog eating the fruit. Once he'd got over the initial face pulling he appeared to quite like it and kept munching.
I've yet to decide whether a chilli pepper would verge too closely into the realms of cruelty. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

It was lemon that my girls liked.
Back in the days when anaesthetics meant that spaying was a risk, there was a lemon product sold, which you sprayed on the dog's bum, with the idea that the scent masked 'on heat' odour from other dogs' noses (no chance of this).
The girls thought it smelled lovely and right after spraying, one would be licking the stuff off the 'interesting' girl's coat.
I used to have four males and the wee deterrent, far from discouraging them, meant that they queued up to wee on the area treated. (attitude being 'I can wee higher than you can')0 -
I feel OP's pain, we have a strong chewer and while it does get better, it can be frustrating trying to stop little ones from doing something dangerous. We tried:
Olbas oil on the advice of a trainer. (Little Hound loved Bitter Apple.) First we applied a diluted solution but this did nothing and so we ended up putting it on things neat. It discouraged but didn't stop the chewing completely. In fact, it was a bigger deterrent to DH who's eyes would stream. :rotfl:
Cable tidies. They group the wires together and add a layer the hound has to get through. Sort of works by making wires less exciting.
As others have said, offering up other stuff. Deer Antlers might work, our hound often seeks it out in the evening for a good chew. They are expensive but do last.
Good luck.0
