I think it depends a lot on who the previous owner was and what their lifestyle was like.

We changed them all here, whereas at the house we left, the new owner knew they had every key that existed, all labelled and put on separate key rings.

It's not that we bought from crooks, but they had a disorganised, rather unconventional lifestyle, with grown-up children who had friends to stay etc, so the risks were clearly greater.

I suppose, but I've moved into two repossessed properties where previous occupants were clearly not the most upstanding citizens (judging by the envelopes of their post and some dubious mould patterns!) and still didn't bother.

I've also never heard of anybody falling victim to burglary by previous occupiers, and I don't think I've ever seen it in local papers, police Facebook pages etc. Has anybody here ever actually known an actual real life case of it happening?

If it has, you can bet the middle aged woman in the corner shop will know about it. ;)

We actually had a house burglary in our village last week; the first in years. Sheds and the odd rustled sheep, yes. Cars too, since few people seem to lock them reliably, but a house break-in is something rare.

The woman in the shop knows who did it, although not who they are, but some are still getting over the shock that the East Europeans have finally found us!
