Annoying sales calls from moneysupermarket.com

Does anyone else feel irritated by the sales calls you get from moneysupermarket.com after browsing their site for an insurance quote? Half a day after using their comparison service for my house insurance I had about 10 calls on my mobile from sales people teling me about "even better prices" from "unavailable companies" on the website. If I'd wanted to be 'sold' to I would not be browsing the internet! And why don't they list all this "even better" companies anyway??

If you didn't want to be called why did you leave your mobile phone number?

It works both ways, I have had them phone me trying to sell me leads and I hate that and would never stoop that low.

Quite a lot of companies available dont make their products available on the quote portals. Some that do dont allow discounting on the quote portal but do manually.

  • Well, its impossible to get a quote without it - its one of those starred fields. I suppose I should have made a number up, but to be honest, I'm silly enough to have thought thye were more reputable than that!
  • I suspect that is exactly what happened......the phone calls were from people wanting to sell me their own insurances...also the post has just arrived and I have an unsolicited snail mail from someone else selling me insurance. Even more annoying as I have spent months delisting my address from junk mail:mad:

    Are you sure about that?
I would be suprised about that as not everyone has a mobile phone.
Mobile phone is usually not mandatory for this reason.

If it's optional then I wouldn't put it in.
If it's mandatory then you need to weigh up the pros and cons and possibly put a false number in.
A con of course is that you might miss out on a fantastic deal (usually not though).
  • The compulsory number I gave was my office number but the phone was diverted to my mobile. I guess I must have a low tolerance for sales calls...I won't be using the site again, thats for sure.

    Thanks for your input

There is a tickbox on the form that says something like "tick this box if you don't want to be contacted bla-di-bla...". It's not very obvious - hidden right at the bottom of the page, but if you tick it you won't get called.

Of course, if you're genuinely looking for insurance, you can use these sales calls to start people bidding for your business - read the "Car Insurance Success Stories" sticky thread. I stretched the truth a bit with the people calling me and got them to knock £200 off the cheapest quote on MSN as well as increasing my cover and lowering my excesses :-)
