Move W10 licence to different machine

I have desktop which is running (well walking!) W10. It was upgraded from W7 during the free period. However it is not really powerful enough to be of much use.
I have been given a somewhat higher spec machine which is currently running W7. Can I deactivate the first machine (which I am intending to scrap) then install and use the W10 licence on the newer box?
Thanks

If you created a Microsoft account when you upgraded and sign into it after installing W10 on the new machine it should work without you having to deactivate anything.
It worked for me.0 -
No need, you can still 'upgrade' the new machine to Windows 10 for free to this day.
Out of interest, what spec the old machine?0 -
Yep the windows 10 upgrade still works. I have just built a new desktop PC and used a windows 7 laptop serial which had not been updated to win 10.
Installed win10 and the serial worked fine.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
You just need to self-identity you are disabled to get the free upgrade0

I believe the upgrade from Windows 7 still works without needing to do that.I_have_spoken wrote: »You just need to self-identity you are disabled to get the free upgrade0 -
Not without going against the terms of the license. The Win10 licence is tied to the motherboard of the machine it is installed on.Undervalued wrote: »I have desktop which is running (well walking!) Nope. I just installed windows 10 from the MS website and inserted the WIN 7 serial and it worked.
I posted where it didnt work previously but it seems i was putting an 8 where it was actually a B in the serial. My excuse is it was slightly faded and smudged nothing to do with me getting old
But nothing was required. I was going to use the links to assisted technology but it was not required.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
