o2 default notice - payment 10 days late

Hi,

I took out an o2 contract on the 13th of February this year. Since then o2 has taken out two payments successfully via direct debit. On the 27th of April one payment has unfortunately been missed since I didn't have enough money in the account to cover the direct debit. Without any further communication from them I have now received two letters (one for the device and one for the services) that are both default notices, served under section 87 (1) of the Consumer Credit Act 1974.

I have of course immediately paid both amounts, but I'm worried that I will have a default on my credit file now for 1 (one!) missed payment that was ten days late?!

    It will be a missed payment, rather than an actual default (as in an account default).

    Nothing to overly worry about as long as you don't make a habit of it, and aren't half way through a mortgage application.

    Default notices are sent to you when you have missed a payment and actually defaulted. But this is not the same as a default being registered on your credit file, as this wouldn’t usually happen until you were around 3 months in arrears.

    Zx81 is correct, it will be recorded as a missed or late payment on your credit file. Not great, but not as damaging as a default being registered.
