for tea. It was from Tesco and it was from the "finest" range and it was a pie. But they clearly forgot the meat element.

It sounds a bit like this pie I recently bought (from Tesco as well)
The only thing that I couldn't find were any pieces of kidney. Once I read the ingredients list I realised why.
Beef Kidney (Minced) (4.5%)
Now, if I buy a S&K pie, it's probably because I like the taste of both the steak and the kidney in there but once it's minced up and added to the rest of the contents, it's impossible to discern the taste or texture of it.
Sorry for the hijack but I didn't think my vent warranted a new thread.0 -
I find the best pies for meat content are Sainsbury's or Fray Bentos. You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

The best pies for meat content are home-made.
Did a lovely one in the slow cooker yesterday (base) with 3/4lb beef, mushrooms, onions & potatoes, added some blue stilton in the pie dish and topped it with shortcrust pastry.
It made some lovely gravy to go with it too.0 -

Well, I made one the other day and it was dreadful. So I don't think you can generalise from your experience.0 -

Jeez!
Really?
I'd sack the chef. :cool:0 -
Lidl's pies, meat or cheese etc are cheap and tasty.
Regarding Tesco, send a customer service email via their website, as they are very good at dealing with product complaints ie vouchers/cashcards given.
I complained last week that instore bakery pies seem to be having watery fillings with less fruit, causing the pastry to be soggy within hours of purchase and some pastry to dissolve into the watery filling.
They are looking at the supplier of the fillings and sent me a £5 cashcard.0 -
We had a couple of steak & ale pies from Asda's extra special gold plated premium chosen by somebody else rang, and they were lovely. Sadly lacking in meat though.
To make amends, tomorrow I'm doing a slow cooked beef in guiness pie (or casserole). That won;t be lacking in meat (or guiness)
