I took out a mortgage with Bradford & Bingley in 1985. It was arranged by a broker and I now think I was sold PPI. Do I need to contact the lender or the broker?

I can't remember who the broker was - I remember going to his office, which was in his house - would/should the lender give me his details? What if his company no longer exists?

Clearly I need to starts with BBBS - how do I find who they are now and how to contact them?

That would be very rare in 1985. That was right at the start of its existence. In 1985, the most common issues were MIG and life assurance.

Neither. You are 20 years prior to the regulation of the broker.

No you dont. They have nothing to do with it.

    Bottom line is
1 - you almost certainly did not have PPI.
2 - you are way before regulation and the broker probably doesnt exist. Even if they do, they dont have to consider your complaint.
3 - Documentation on a standalone product from that era is going to be long destroyed unless you were still paying the monthly insurance premium until relatively recently.
