isnt the redundancy insurance to cover you until you find work and not to provide an alternative to working?

Yes it is, but I do have some savings and I would not want to take a minimum wage job for less than half of the redundancy insurance - please note that I am not entitled to any other money and I need to pay my mortgage. Once these payments expire (12 months), I may well decide to start up my own business again and in the meantime I am having an extension built to permanently look after my elderly mother.

It makes sense, really. The insurance company wants to pay you as little as possible (that's how they make their money), so they want you to sign on and get pestered into any job going by the Job Centre.

You can sign on and not receive any money. It would be a National Insurance credits only claim. This should satisfy the insurers. I don't think your NIC only claim can be sanctioned:

Thank you for your reply, yes I am only entitled to NI credits and I even offered to pay that directly, but I am unable to if I am on JSA. I have worked very hard all my life and this redundancy insurance gives me the ability to take stock and perhaps start up another business in a few months - my question still remains on if JSA stop my claim for whatever reason, how can I sign on to satisfy the insurance company if it isn't under the JSA format?

So effectively, in order for you to receive the full 12 months money from your insurance provider, you need to continue to sign on with JSA. So effectively, your job at the moment to earn your £2,700 per month is to ensure that you don't get kicked off JSA. I would have thought that this shouldn't be beyond your skills. You just need to play the game with JSA, doff your cap to the person there and make sure that you meet their minimum requirements.

There is no way around this.

In order to receive your insurance payments you need to sign on. You won't receive any money (JSA) but you will have to adhere to the job seeking requirements.

If you end your JSA claim then your insurance payments will stop.

    It really is this simple.

Are you job seeking yourself? This would seem to be the perfect answer - to find a job for yourself rather than having to accept any job that the Job Centre 'finds' for you. As already said, they do give you a 'grace period' when you can pick and choose.

Paul one way round it is to get the doctor to sign you off, then produce your sick note to job centre, JSA will continue,NI will still be paid and your insurance will still pay out my friend.

Paul one way round it is to get the doctor to sign you off,

The OP does not indicate that he is suffering from ill health?

If he wants the insurance, he needs to sign on and fulfil the JSA conditions.

I don't think that wanting paid time off on redundancy insurance so that he can build an extension for his elderly mother is likely to be looked on kindly by the doctor or the insurer........

I would imagine due to all that is happening in this guys life. Losing his business by being defrauded, redundancy, working towards a safe place for his mother, not expecting the state to do so, and now this with the DWP and the threat to the insurance he paid in for in case of redundancy and the worry over his mortgage and who knows what else. That he must be under immense stress. I should imagine with the time-scales given he will be at an age when stress is taken very seriously and I think a sick note would be given.

If you are still around Paul. do what is best for you and your family and your security.

I wish you all the best.

Wow. Do you have a habit of fabricating illness for financial gain? Are you medically qualified?

There is no way round this will have to sign on to get the payments, look at it like this everyone else has to sign on to get their £72 per week its just you are getting more via a different source.

The JC are correct you will have to look for any job after a certain time period, you will also be required to take it if offered it. HOWEVER with your CV it highly unlikely you will be offered a min wage job, your application will just go in the bin like many of the others they will receive from unsuitable candidates.

When I was on JSA I applied for all jobs as this is what I was required to do. The min wage jobs or those I didn't really want got a standard copy of my CV and only took me a short time to apply. The jobs that I was interested in got a tailed CV to that role and I spent a long time writing the covering letter.

The JC will not find a job for you, they expect you to do that, as long as you can prove you have been applying for roles, you have satisfied their requirements.

I would be wary of the advise given to go 'sick' you do not get JSA which sick you are transferred to ESA (or whatever it is these days), this might mean your insurance will not pay out.

So when the insurance company wrote:

"You can still sign on even if you don’t receive JSA. Some people are not entitled to it but still need sign on and go through the same procedure every 2 weeks".

This is I guess not possible?
