hi there my tablet has thrown a wobbler and I think it is unrepairable and i would ideally like to replace it with one exactly the same - think it is the 2012 1st generation that i have which I bought about 4 years ago.
I have had a look on ebay but does anyone have any suggestions of where else I could buy a new (unlikely) or refurbished replacement or alternatively a tablet for up to about £80 which would do a similar job.

I only use it with wifi and mainly for emails, facebook, browsing etc.

I only want a 7 inch model as I find it easier to use. Many thanks

Replace it with the 2013 second generation which is a massive improvement over the first generation and fixes all the shortfalls such as having two speakers instead of one.

  • For your usage it might be worth considering an Amazon Kindle Fire costing between £35 and £50.

I agree with Tarambor, as you liked 2012 version, you will love 2013 Nexus 7.

Nexus 7 users agree too !

The biggest improvement of 2013 Nexus 7 for me is screen resolution.

2013 Nexus 7 supports Android 6.0 only, but you are able to install the latest 7.1 developed by open source community (custom rom). This 2013 Nexus 7 is very popular among the developer's community, I believe this device will be supported for another couple of years at least. (You are able to keep using the latest Android OS without software obsolescence)

This is the one of popular custom Roms for nexus 7 2013

( I am currently using 2013 Nexus 7, I have used 2012 Nexus 7 for short time to install a lightweight custom rom for my friend.)

Another vote for the 2013 Nexus 7. It still has lots of 7 inch Android tablets spanked for spec as said above. Check the screen resolution and RAM for example before buying a 'newer, better' tablet. It lacks a MicroSD slot though, so the 32GB version might be a good investment if you have a lot of apps or media. Some newer tablets MAY have better cameras too.

toshi - are you running Android 7 on your Nexus? How's it going? Worth it over stock v6?

Sorry to hijack melb's thread but I have already got a 2nd Gen 2013 Nexus 7 which is on its last legs sooo.. as melb doesn't want to buy one off eBay and I need a replacement for mine, what can anyone recommend as a decent replacement that isn't another Nexus 7?
    :p

I'd be tempted to buy a second hand Nexus 7, seriously.
I'm probably getting very hung up on specs, but it's got an actual fast quad core processor, 1920x1200 screen, and 2GB of RAM.
Before you write it off, beat those specs in a 7 inch tablet. And let the rest of us know!
I ran an Asus MeMo pad for a while, a decent one with 1280x800 screen, and it was great, but not as good as the Nexus. I've got a Fire 7 too and it does the job, but it is nowhere near as good as the Nexus, despite being far newer.
I'd be happy buying either of these:

almillar, Multi-Window with Android 7 may be useful for some users. As far as I know, Android 6 has a massive improvement from Android 5, (battery life, stability etc) So you may want to use the stock rom for a while (no security update is only concern)

Yes, I am using a custom ROM, I installed Lineage 14 for testing. It was very stable; I can recommend this as well. But I returned to Marshmallow (Custom Rom), as I need to use Xposed applications.

Don’t be nervous! lol Actually, I found this sweet Nexus7 via Gumtree at a knock down price recently, you may want to try as well

This is a money saving site. Right? If you do like the Nexus 7, may I suggest to get another one? Then use the current one as back up and /or spare parts. This Nexus 7, like Oneplus One, is well supported by developers’ community, which means virtually grantee to work in the future. I am pretty confident that this device will be supported with Android 8 (9?) So your running cost will be very low. lol

    Happy hacking :)

+1 to DavidP24 and the Lenovo Tab3 8. I have been using mine for almost 6 months now and I love it. Argos is also the cheapest outlet atm.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.
