Engineering question
Sort of...
I want to know the name of a key type. The key would fit a water tap but it could be in use in other applications.
The key is a male fitting, into a female recess.
Description....
Have a strong metal round rod, diameter approx 8 - 10mm, length 1m. Have the working end of that rod rounded off like the top of a broom handle.
About 5mm back from the working end of the rod, drill a hole straight through the rod, about 4 - 5mm diameter.
Take a short metal rod about 25mm long, diameter 4 - 5mm, push this into the drilled hole. and weld or have it tight-fit.
So what you are left with is a metal rod with a small T on one end, but with a bit of the rod protruding beyond the T, and obviously at the other end, there would be a big handle to turn it with.
I have seen this type of key before, but I can't remember what it was for.
Any idea of the engineering name for this or where I might find images on the internet, or where they are available for sale?
Similar to a manhole key, but I would prefer to find an exact match.
Thanks

Is it a sump plug key you are talking about, they make them with several size ends on to fit sump, axle, differntial plugs etc.0

Sounds like a starting handle, the cross pin does the driving.
I've never seen a water tap like that, I guess there is a round hollow bush that the rod fits in, with a slot that the cross pin drops into.
I've seen one somewhere too, can it have been a cheap universal extension drive I'm thinking of?I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

OP, can you tell us why specifically you want the key, what you need to use it for ? That might give us a bit more a clue0
