Payment Break (PPI) Providian Credit Card claim

My husband had a Providian credit card around the years 2002 - 2007 -ish.
It was paid off.

We no longer have any statements, but do have the account number.
I'm not 100% he had PBP/PPI, but i'm pretty sure he did.

In 2013 I tried to find out about this on his behalf, but failed. Here's what happened.

I wrote to Monument, basically saying I was mis-sold, giving my reasons and asking for a refund. They wrote back within a couple of weeks saying
"Your account is not owned by Monument therefore we are unable to supply any info. On July 1 2007 barclaycard sold a percentage of the Monument VISA portfolio to CCUK Finance (via an arrangement with Raphael's & sons plc). The remaining percentage of Monument accs. were retained by Barclaycard".

I then sent a SAR to Barclaycard, who replied with "Unable to provide info. as we only store data for this account from Aug 2003".

I then wrote back to Barclaycard just saying I had PBP and asking for a refund (on the offchance), but got this reply:
I have looked into your complaint and can confirm that Monument has never sold PPI but they did offer an optional PBP. However, there is no record of a PBP on your account.
I have checked the details of the account you had with Barclaycard and can confirm you have not had an active PBP in the last 9 years. I have attached a copy of your first and last statement over this period so you can see no charges were made to your card account for this product". (They did not attach any statements)
"If you have any onfo to show you did have a PBP on your account please send it and we will be happy to reconsider our response. This is our final response blah blah".

I then wrote to CCP about it and got this:
"we have been unable to locate a policy in our records. this is either because you did not have a policy with CCP, or your policy was part of a packaged bank account. If you can provide evidence we will check our records again".

Now I'm pretty sure there was PBP as when we got into financial trouble circa 2005, I think I remember my husband called them to cancel it, and around the same time we went to a debt management company (Bains & Ernst) as we were desperate.

Should we just give up on this or do any experts in claiming think we should try again?

Your problem is evidence. They have looked at your complaint and havent needed to consider any merits of it or not as the available evidence shows you never had PPI. They did offer payment break but they are saying that they can find no evidence that supports you paying this.

If you have no evidence and they have no evidence then its game over.

You're out of time. Barclaycard gave you their final response in 2013, you had six months from then to go to the ombudsman.
